NZ North East Shelf Glider Transect
NIWA maintains a glider transect along the North East Shelf of New Zealand. Data are collected between the Bay of Islands and the Bay of Plenty. With 9 deployments and counting we’re creating a data set on which climatology can be assessed. Glider data from this transect are used to improve NIWA’s models, including real-time data assimilation. In April 2022 glider Manaia measured ex-tropical cyclone Fili at the southern end of the transect.
